Since watching The LEGO Movie (2014) in late 2015, I have begun the trek into the AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO) community. Like with other communities, there are big names and little names alike. Our common connection is the love of the brick.

There are many AFOLs out there, some on YouTube, Instagram, Flicker. More

Build or Trade SigFigs?

Over the pass month or so, I have built 10 of my SigFigs. One for myself and the other 9 to be used for Trades or “giving away”. So far I have sent to a few people that I had already bought their SigFigs from their store (if they do city updates or regularly show other people’s Figs when talking about them on their YouTube channels. Figured it was only fair they had one of me since I had one of them. I have also done a trade as well. I enjoy hunting for their parts when I’m already looking for items at any given BrickLink Store, however, I do think some figures might be easier, or better off, just getting in a trade.

My LEGO City Economy

As I build up my LEGO city, I was trying to figure out the infrastructure. Was thinking of trying doing a basic conversion from US Dollar to LEGO Dollar, using the average price on BrickLink for a $100 as the rate of change. This only allows for taking a set or a base plate to find value in LEGO Dollar.

Example: Currently a $100L goes for $0.20 USD, and buying a 32 x 32 base plate from one of my local stores, $7.99 converts to $3,995L. So using this, a 3 base plates x 3 base plate plot of land in the city without any buildings on them gives a value of $35,955L.

Taking Baby Steps

As per my last entry, I have started to do some “basic” LEGO Haul videos for YouTube, using an old Panasonic Mini DV Recorder I got well over ten years ago.  Also only using the editing software that is Movie Maker; a complete 180 it feels like from when I took editing classes in college.  So, I have decided, that as long as I continue to make videos for YouTube or start to work on other video projects, I will be looking to get back into building my editing computer, upgrading camera equipment, and so on.

I May Not Have Won, However, I Am Still Winning It

On my drive home tonight I was thinking, “What am I doing?” You know, the tipical question someone might ask themselves when they are unsure what they should be or what they are currently doing with their life. Personally, I also ask myself, “What skills do I have, I mean really what sets me apart from anyone else?” I would not consider myself truly skilled at anything, and as far as what I am doing, I do not know. Most days I wake up and head to work, I’m there for about twelve hours (with a few breaks in there), I come home and maybe spend an hour with my kids before they go to bed and I start the cycle all over again. On my days off I tend to spend playing with my kids, building/buying LEGO, watching YouTube videos and just generally “catching up” with what is going on around me.

LEGO Modular Buildings

Over the last couple of days (really since Christmas), I have been putting one or two LEGO sets together. Mostly the sets I or my son got for Christmas. I feel that it really can help calm me down after a not so good day at work, or just make me feel like I actually got something done on those days I feel like I just didn’t do anything right.

LEGO, LEGO, and Even More LEGO

So recently (about three months ago from the time of this writing) my son and I watched “The LEGO Movie” for the first time. Which could be consider the catalyst in bringing me out of my “Dark Ages”, with the urge and desire to build my own LEGO city, or at least a few Skyscrapers. This want, brought me to looking up other people’s LEGO Cities on YouTube; this would be where I was first introduced to Bricks4Chris and his on going city.
